CfP: Measurement Instruments in the GESIS Panel (Article Collection)

The GESIS Panel
The GESIS Panel is part of GESIS, Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences in Mannheim, Germany. The GESIS Panel offers the social science community a unique opportunity to collect and analyze survey data within a probability-based mixed-mode access panel. The GESIS Panel data are representative of the German-speaking population aged between 18 and 70 years (at the time of recruitment) and permanently resident in Germany. By the end of the recruitment phase in February 2014, the GESIS Panel comprised around 4900 panelists. To compensate for panel attrition, a refreshment sample was drawn from the German General Social Survey (ALLBUS) in 2016. As of March 2018, the GESIS Panel comprised about 4700 panelists.
Call for contributions
The GESIS Panel is a treasure chest of measurement instruments. Some of these instruments were exclusively developed to be used in the GESIS Panel, whereas others represent established instruments that have been translated or adapted for the GESIS Panel, e.g, to replicate previous findings. This article collection aims at bringing together original studies from scholars of a diverse research community to address questions that include, but are not limited to, the secondary analysis of GESIS Panel data for:
- Documentation and proper psychometric evaluation of item collections in previous GESIS Panel waves that can serve as instruments in the future
- Documentation and proper psychometric evaluation of new collections of items in the GESIS Panel that can serve as new instruments in the future
- Replication studies on the quality of already established measurement instruments based on their assessment in the GESIS Panel
- Evaluation of new translations or international adaptations of measurement instruments taken from previous GESIS Panel waves, e.g. on the basis of authors’ own/independent data collections
- Advances in methodology, exemplified with data from the GESIS Panel

Submissions to MISS that are suitable for the GESIS Panel article collection are encouraged. Editors may stop accepting submissions for the collection at any point in time, depending on number and scope of articles collected. Submitted papers will be peer reviewed and published directly after acceptance (i.e. without waiting for the acceptance of other contributions). Thus the articles are published in both the main part of the journal and as part of the article collection.
Submission instructions
The complete manuscript should be submitted through the journal submission system. Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure you have carefully read the submission guidelines for Measurement Instruments for the Social Sciences (MISS). In addition, indicate within your cover letter and upon submission that you wish your manuscript to be considered as part of the article collection on Measurement Instruments in the GESIS Panel. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review and accepted articles will be published within the journal as a collection. MISS supports open science standards and strongly encourages authors to supplement their submission by statistical analysis code (R code, Mplus code, Stata code, etc.). Hyperlinks pointing to the relevant GESIS Panel public use files are mandatory, other datasets can be included as supplemental information, too.
